About All Metropolitan

Girls First Team

Boys First Team

The Washington Post's All-Met teams were the standard for recognizing the top high school athletes in the Washington, D.C. area since their inception over 100 years ago. When The Post announced it was shuttering its sports department in early February, it brought an immediate end to the newspaper's coverage of local high school sports in the middle of the winter season.

We are excited to announce the All-Met tradition will continue. Capitol Hoops' Marc Stern, MADE Hoops' Marcus Helton and several other prominent media members are thrilled to partner with the former Washington Post high school basketball beat writers to select All-Met boys' and girls' basketball teams for the 2025-26 season, carrying on the longtime practice of celebrating the top high school basketball players across the DMV.

The All-Met teams will continue in the same familiar format, featuring a Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, first team, second team, third team, fourth team and honorable mentions.

The selection process will be handled by a panel of local media that includes former Washington Post reporters and will solicit input from area coaches to ensure an objective, authoritative final product that represents the best of the region. Eligibility parameters will remain the same, including athletes and coaches from The Post's coverage areas that include Washington, D.C.

and its surrounding counties in Maryland and Virginia. This year's All-Met honorees will be announced after the season ends.

SPARC, the All-Met teams' presenting sponsor, will host a postseason ceremony honoring Player of the Year, Coach of the Year and first team selections at their performance center in Beltsville, Maryland.
